The maiden offering of Lyric Opera Philippines is Georges Bizet’s Carmen. Directed by acclaimed film and television director Laurice Guillen, with stage and costume design by Gino Gonzales and lighting design by Monino Duque. Staged at the Sta. Cecilia Auditorium of St. Scholastica’s College. Music was provided by the Manila Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Arturo Molina.
“The stellar cast was in fine voice, but what made the production truly special was Guillen’s ability to make her singers portray their roles believably and empathetically, aside from just producing those awesome musical sounds—and zounds!” (Nestor U. Torre, Philippine Daily Inquirer, Nov.9, 2012)
